The 1881 Canadian federal census states that John and Catherine Hiltz with three daughters resided in the Blockhouse census district, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Their widowed son-in-law James Backet with two daughters lived in the household. John Hiltz was a farmer. James Backet was a fisherman. The widow Catherine Hiltz with a daughter, a grandaughter and a grandson resided in the Oakland census district, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia according to the 1901 Canadian federal census. Catherine Hiltz was a farmer. Her granddaughter Beatrice Backet was a domestic in the household. Fourteen-year-old Peter Hisler lived in the household. James Hyson was a lodger and servant.
