2. James White (Andrew1). Born abt 1817 in Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia. James died bef 1901; he was 84.

James White appears in the 1861 Nova Scotia census (Lunenburg, polling district 9, abstract 2, Bridgewater).

James White and family appear in the 1871 federal census (Lunenburg 195-B2, pp. 76-77 [house 226, family 242.). All members of the family were born in Nova Scotia according to the census. James was a farmer, and the family was listed as being Baptist. James and the children are listed as being of Irish background while his wife Margaret is listed as being of English background. James could read but not write, while Margaret was illiterate. He owned 150 acres of land of which 100 were listed as occupied, 25 as improved and 10 in pasture. He additionally owned 1 house, 1 waggon/sled, 2 other horned cattle, and 12 sheep. In terms of agricultural production, the farm produced 15 bushels of barley, 25 bushels of rye, 2 bushels of buckwheat, 30 bushels of potatoes, 4 tons of hay, 15 lbs of wool and 19 yards of cloth. Also 2 sheep and 1 swine were slaughtered.

James appears in the 1881 federal census (Kings 17-J1, pp. 11-12). They resided in Aylesford, Nova Scotia. He is listed as farmer having been born in New Brunswick [although previous records have stated Nova Scotia]. The family is listed as Baptist, of Irish background, and having been born in Nova Scotia. Marriage records of the younger children indicate that after about 1873 they lived in Harmony, Kings Co., N.S. which is about 6 kilometres south of Aylesford, N.S.

abt 1840 James first married Mary Ann Lintlop, daughter of Jacob Lintlop & Frederica Romkey. Born on 5 Mar 1821 in Upper LaHave, Nova Scotia. Mary Ann was baptized in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, on 17 Apr 1821. Mary Ann died in Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, abt 1854; she was 32.

Circumstantial evidence suggests that Mary White was likely Mary Ann Lintlop. No date of marriage or death have been determined.

On 16 Aug 1854 James second married Margaret Elizabeth Lintlop, daughter of Jacob Lintlop & Sophia Sharp, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Born on 27 Dec 1831 in Middle LaHave, Nova Scotia. Margaret Elizabeth was baptized in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, on 17 Jan 1832.

The 1838 Nova Scotia census indicates that Andrew White had a daughter between ages 6 and 14 .
