Caspar Heyson appears in the 1861 Nova Scotia census. The household consisted of three people: one married male age 40-50; one married female age 40-50; and one single female age 5-10. The census states that there were two females over age 15 who could not write. [It appears that that there was one child, but the age is unclear. Having been married in 1848, the age of 5-10 years seems more appropriate for their possible child.] Caspar owned six acres of cultivated intervale valued at NSD 300 and nine acres of cultivated upland valued at NSD 12. He also owned two neat cows, one milch cow, six sheep and one pig. In terms of agricultural production, the farm produced four tons of hay, 30 bushels of barley, four bushels of oats, 30 bushels of potatoes, five bushels of turnips, six bushels of other roots, eight bushels of apples, 55 yards of cloth, and 50 pounds of butter. The 1871 Canadian federal census states that Caspar and Delilah Heyson resided in the Mahone Bay census district, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. His sister and brother-in-law Sophia and Benjamin Werling lived in the household. Casper Heyson was a farmer. Benjamin Werling was a sailmaker. The two families were Presbyterians. Casper and Delila Heyson could read only while Benjamin and Sophia Werling were literate. (Lunenburg 195-H1, p. 14, no. 8 [house 37, family 49]). He was a farmer. They were both listed as Presbyterian and could read only. Caspar Heyson owned 22.5 acres of which 15 were improved and seven in pasture. Additionally he owned two waggons, one boat, two ploughs, two working oxen, two milch cows, one other horned cattle, four sheep and one swine. In terms of agricultural production, the farm produced 10 bushels of barley, eight bushels of oats, five bushels of turnips, five bushels of mangelwurzel (beets), five tons of hay from five acres, eight bushels of apples, 120 pounds of butter, nine pounds of wool, and 10 yards of cloth in 1870.
